Dexron is a GM specification, and Mercon is Ford's equivalent of Dexron. They are equivalents. Therefore you can use Dex/Merc (the bottle's back label should verify that, showing it's suitable, in particular, for Dexron II/III applications).A "universal" fluid that is commonly available is labeled "Dex/Merc" and are usually compatible with Mercon (not Mercon V), Dexron II, and Dexron III, and possibly others. The manual calls for Dex II or Dex III. I took it into a dealer for a drain and fill (not a flush or full fluid exchange). They put Toyota T-IV in, so now there is 5qts of that in there, along with whatever was in the tranny last, which I assume is Dex III.
